Herb “Doc” Patnoe
Patnoe was one of the earliest jazz educators establishing the Foothill and De Anza College Jazz Programs in the mid 1960s. He was a leader in the California Community Colleges as a Jazz mentor and the Annual Herb Patnoe Jazz Festival at De Anza remains one of the California’s most successful jazz events. Patnoe was loved by students for his sense of humor. Many alumni of his bands have served in important professional big bands.
