SUMMER JAZZ INSTITUTE

AJ is very proud and excited to announce the following professional development opportunity for anybody wanting to grow their Jazz Education toolbox!
The Summer Jazz Institute is a collaboration between the California Alliance for Jazz, SCSBOA, and Jazz at Lincoln Center designed to bring music teachers (and music education students) the ability to learn from master artist/educators. The 2025 SJI Faculty will include:
Wayne Bergeron
Walter Blanding
Barb Catlin
Mike Dana
JB Dyas
Jeff Jarvis
Tina Raymond
Aarón Serfaty
and others!
The Summer Jazz Institute is a two-day, conference style event being held at Cal State Long Beach on July 23rd and 24th. Sessions will be offered covering a broad array of Jazz Education topics: Ensemble Rehearsal, Improvisation, Arranging, Instrument Specific Pedagogy (bass, keyboard, and guitar for non bassists, pianists, and guitarists), Combo Program Development, and much more. Wayne and Walter will be running a Director Reading Band focusing on ensemble rehearsal techniques. SJI attendees will have the opportunity to play in small groups led by our outstanding faculty and learn improvisation techniques firsthand that you can take back to your classroom, no matter what your level or experience is.
