Coralie Prince


Coralie Lampiasi Prince: Music Educator, Singer, Pianist, Accompanist, Drummer, Composer, Copyist, Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Friend.

Coralie was born in Hollywood, CA, to wonderful parents and a family who loved music! Her father, James Lampiasi was an amazing singer, songwriter, copyist, composer, and big band arranger! Frank Sinatra, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Phil Harris, Jan Garber, Perry Como, Jimmy Cash, and others recorded his songs. Her house was always filled with music and musicians which inspired her musical future. Her mother, Sarah Boulware Lampiasi, was a loving person who was a nurse and a great supporter of the arts and entertainer for the musicians, family, and friends.

After college, Coralie married John Prince who she met at Redlands as music majors. He was an incredible Music Educator, Composer, Musician who began the first 4-year program and degree in Jazz Studies and Commercial Music on the West Coast at CSULB in 1972. Besides being his fan and loving wife, she was John's copyist, assistant, ran their publishing company "The John Prince Cookbook" sending charts to schools all over the world, entertained, and was mother to their three fantastic children. Currently, she loves spending time with her wonderful grandchildren! John and Coralie also composed some tunes together. She enjoyed copying his charts for Doc Severinson on The Tonight Show among others.

Coralie studied piano, violin, and dance from an early age. By 17 she accompanied her father and others on piano, accompanied and sang with a vocal pop quartet The Nobles, sang in school musicals and other groups at John Burrough High in Burbank, directed children’s choirs, played the organ in church, and played violin in the Southern CA Jr. Philharmonic orchestra.

Coralie attended the University of Redlands earning a Bachelor of Music with Honors and a Bachelor of Liberal Arts. Majoring in Piano, Organ, Voice, she was busy in classes and several performance groups, and also was class editor of the school annual, elected member of honorary service sorority Spurs, CA regional President of Spurs, member of Sigma Alpha Iota, Mortar Board, and Honorary Pi Kappa Lambda in Music.

She received her teaching credential at UCLA and later her Master in Educational Technology from International University and a Certificate in Music for Special Needs. She taught 4th, 5th, 6th grades a few years in South Pasadena, then 37 years as an Elementary Music Specialist in Los Alamitos.

In Los Alamitos, she taught K-5 General Music, helped create the first district elementary music curriculum, wrote, composed, directed, accompanied, and produced major 2-hour musicals and all grade level musicals each year, directed The Jazz Singers with an Elementary Jazz Combo, was one of the creators of the All-District Choral Festival and directed elementary groups, worked with scouts on music projects, and provided entertainment for numerous district and community functions. Teaching private piano has been a joy for Coralie all of those years as well.

Professionally she has been a member of CMEA, CAJ, MENC, NAfME, ISME, LA Jazz Society, JEN, LAEA, LAEF, PAS. She was the Elementary Representative for CMEA for 4 years; and loves working with the CAJ Board (California Alliance for Jazz) where she has been Elementary Representative for several years! She has attended NAJE, IAJE, JEN conferences for numerous years and always shares Jazz information and resources with other elementary teachers.

"Rewired Career"Coralie refers to her retirement from full time teaching as her "Rewired Career" which includes:

-Playing drum kit in 2 big bands, 2 smaller bands; entertaining at senior community centers

-Playing drum kit in a dance band for senior centers 

-Playing percussion in Concert Band at LBCC 

-Playing piano in chamber music workshops and small groups

-Playing drum kit in improv/arranging combo

-Attending professional Jazz Workshops and conferences

-Teaching piano 

In the Schools:-Ambassador for Class Act Program (Liaison between one of her elementary schools and the Pacific Symphony); she works with all the classes and the resident musician

-Teaching Musical Theater and Choir after school with the Los Alamitos Education Foundation LAEF

-Member of the Philharmonic Society of Orange County; ushering for youth concerts throughout OC; raising money to provide free concerts, music education, and grants to all school children in Orange County.

-Chairman of Music Mobile for HH Committee which takes the instruments of the orchestra to all 3rd graders in the schools, gives presentations, and hands-on experiences for the students

-Presenting Woodwind Instruments to 2nd graders for 20 plus years 

-Helping to financially support UR, community band, School Choirs and Bands, Los Angeles Jazz Society, and needy students

-Presenting John Prince Memorial Award with Money at State Jazz Honor Groups concert for CAJ

-Presenting John Prince Memorial Award with Money to a student at CSULB Jazz Band each year 

Honors for Coralie have included:

-CAJ Hall of Fame 2021-Alumni Career Achievement Award from University of Redlands 2020-Irene Schoepfle Life Time Achievement Award in Music Education from OCMAA-CMEA Outstanding Music Educator Southern Section-CMEA Outstanding Music Educator Southwestern Section-Orange County Music and Arts Administrator (OCMAA) Outstanding Music Educator Award

-PTA Honorary Service Award (3 different schools) 

-PTA Continuing Service Award -First Place in Orange County Musical Theater Competition several years
