Kelly Corbin
Dr. Kelly Corbin is a jazz saxophonist, educator, and passionate advocate for music education. He holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, a Master of Fine Arts from California Institute of the Arts, and a Bachelor of Music from CSU, Northridge. Over his career, he has toured and recorded with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and continues to perform throughout the Bay Area.
Dr. Corbin spent 12 years teaching middle school band, choir, and piano in Twentynine Palms, CA, before transitioning to Valencia Elementary in Aptos, CA, near Santa Cruz. He is certified in Orff Schulwerk, having completed his levels training through the San Francisco Orff Course in Carmel Valley. In addition to his work with young musicians, he directs two big bands at Cabrillo College, further bridging the gap between jazz performance and music education.
As an educator, Dr. Corbin is dedicated to bringing the world of jazz and the energy of elementary school life closer together, fostering creativity and joy in his students. Outside of music, he and his wife—also an elementary music teacher—spend their time hiking, rock climbing, and exploring the outdoors with their daughter, Eleanor.
