Bruce Rodgers
2026 High-School All-State
Vocal Jazz
Bruce Rogers is Professor Emeritus at Mt. San Antonio College, where he taught for thirty years. Choirs under his direction have earned top honors in national and international competitions, with performances across the United States, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. His ensembles have appeared at eight California State Conventions, fifteen American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Regional and National Conventions, and multiple International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) National Conventions. In both 2001 and 2005, he made history as the first U.S. choral director to have two choirs perform at both IAJE and ACDA National Conventions in the same year—a feat he repeated in 2017 at the JEN and ACDA National Conferences.
His award-winning vocal jazz group, Singcopation, has earned fifteen DownBeat Magazine Awards for Best Collegiate Vocal Jazz Group and multiple awards for Outstanding Performance. They have headlined at venues including Lincoln Center, B.B. King’s in Hollywood, and the Monterey Jazz Festival. Internationally, they have won top prizes in Australia, China, and Germany, including the Grand Prix and Platinum Medal at major international competitions. They also performed in Star Wars In Concert and opened for The Real Group at the Apollo Theater.
Professor Rogers has received numerous honors, including Mt. SAC’s “Faculty Member of the Year,” the NCCO “Lifetime Achievement Award,” and CMEA’s “Outstanding Music Educator Award.” He has conducted numerous state and regional honor choirs and served as a clinician and adjudicator in 28 states and internationally in Europe, Canada, Australia, and China.
